I wanted to make a dog treat that I knew Vík would go crazy for and today was the day! One thing I will never understand is why dogs love cheese so much. In what natural scenario in the wild would canines ever have been introduced to cheese? haha

Anyways, Vík  (and Kenzo) love cheddar cheese so I wanted to make a homemade dog treat that Vík would really enjoy. Vík  also prefers his treats to be crunchy, vs soft, so I made sure to bake these a tad longer than my other treats so they would be crunchier for him. Wow. He is kinda spoiled, eh? But, I don’t consider it spoiled, I consider it “so loved.”

Equipment

  • Food Processor
  • Silicone Mold

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 3 Tablespoons of Refined Coconut Oil
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Kraft Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Put old-fashioned oats into a blender or food processor. Place the lid on, and give it a go on high speed until the oats start to turn into a course flour consistency.
  • Add the Eggs, Coconut Oil, and Shredded Cheddar Cheese to the blender/food processor and set to pulse for 1-2 minutes.
  • Scoop spoonfuls into your silicone baking sheet and press down to fill the molds. I used this one for the dog Bones & Paws shapes, but any silicone mold will do just fine.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until browned on the top
  • Remove from the oven.
  • Pop treats out of silicone mold.
  • Allow the treats to cool completely before giving to your dog.
  • Cover and store leftovers at room temperature or in the refrigerator. These treats will look and feel a little denser than a typical human-grade Oatmeal cookie.

My grandsons loved these! The rottie, teenage boy that he is, loves anything. But the newest addition is much more discriminating-she won’t touch carrots or apple slices-and she adores these. Unfortunately she now turns her nose up at my daughter’s store-bought training bites! So I have another batch in the oven now.
