Did you know that you can make your life juicier by growing your very own fruit tree inside your own home? Don’t worry; it’s easier than you think! Here are three main reasons the Dwarf Lemon Meyer tree is among the best to grow indoors.
1. Dwarf Meyer Lemon Trees are Low-Maintenance
Sometimes the best plant to have is one that doesn’t need a lot of thought or attention. The Meyer Lemon is such a plant. First, it’s not picky about the type of soil it’s in. As long as the soil has good drainage, you’re good to go. You also don’t need to worry about keeping the house at a specific temperature. These trees thrive between 65-80 degrees, which is within the range most of us naturally keep our households out. Not to mention, by growing this tree indoors, you can take advantage of the sun all year round without worrying about cool falls and cold winters.
Perhaps the best part of this tree is that it prefers deep, infrequent waterings. There’s no need to worry about watering every day or on a strict schedule. Periodically check the moisture level of the pot. When the top two inches feel dry, give the plant a good, long soak.
2. It Gives You Lemons
While this is an obvious benefit, there’s something deliciously poetic about growing your own lemons. Life does share of handing us “lemons” that we’re expected to “make lemonade” with. Why not combat life’s trials and tribulations by making literal lemonade with your very own homegrown fruit?
3. It takes minimal effort to take your Dwarf Meyer Lemon tree from “meh” to “marvelous.”
Even though this tree is among the best fruit trees to grow inside, it takes minimal effort to increase your plant’s health exponentially. Some very minor tweaks to maximize your tree include:
- Increasing the humidity around your plant. Lemon trees love humidity. However, it can be difficult (and undesirable) to increase the moisture level for your whole house. This is easily remedied by making your own humidity tray. All you need is a shallow dish the size of your planter and some pebbles. Place the pebbles in the dish, add water just below the top of the pebbles, and voilà! Place your planter on top of those rocks (make sure it’s not touching the water), and as the water from the tray evaporates, it will provide your plant with humidity without increasing the humidity levels in your house too much. Want to add even more humidity? All you need to do is add a humidifier to that room.
- Putting it in the sunniest spot in your house. Lemon trees love to soak up the sun. The more direct sunlight it gets, the better. If possible, place your tree in a southern-facing window for maximum tree health.
- Adding a fan! The Meyer Lemon tree is a self-pollinator. Providing a fan in the same room will encourage pollination, the same way a summer breeze would.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the literal fruits of your labor!
