Natural Lawn Weed Killers- Homemade Weed Killers

1. Put Down Newspaper

This idea may seem a little strange, but it can truly help keep weeds at bay. The newspaper’s job is to block the sun and oxygen from getting to the soil that weeds grow on. If you already have weeds, put newspaper down to kill the ones you already have while helping to prevent new weeds from coming up.

It may seem like a lot, but make sure to put down about 10 sheets of newspaper topped with water and mulch.

2. Pour Boiling Water on The Weeds

Boiling water will burn the weeds almost instantly. You can boil some water, take it out to the yard, and pour it on the weedy spots. This natural way to kill weeds is best used on sidewalks, driveways, and other cemented areas.

It will kill the weeds within the cracks but can be harmful to your plants. Use this natural weed killer away from your plants and enjoy the results.

3. Sprinkle The Weeds with Cornmeal

Cornmeal will keep weeds from growing. Cornmeal will also prevent germination-the seed turning into a plant- so it is best to sprinkle it around your well-established plants. Be sure that the plants you DO want to keep alive already have ample growth and a strong root system.

You can use cornmeal as much as needed, but again, make sure it is only used around well-established plants.

4. Pull Pull Pull

You can always pull weeds to keep up on the maintenance between spraying and applying the homemade weed killers above.

As odd as it sounds, I actually have started to enjoy weed-pulling. But it’s only because we got this mega-awesome weed puller, Ames Stand-Up Weeder. We ordered ours from Home Depot, but they do have similar ones on Amazon.

5. Spray Those Pesky Intruders with Lemon

The acid in lemons will kill weeds within a day or two of using it. Since lemons grow on trees, we know that this is as natural as weed killers can come.

You don’t necessarily have to use lemon juice from one that grows on trees either; you can use ReaLemon from the grocery store. There’s no need to add water- the stronger the acid, the better for getting rid of those pesky weeds.

6. Make Your Own Natural Weed Killer

You can also make your own natural weed killer. You probably already have these ingredients lying around!

Mix:

  • 1 Gallon white vinegar
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Liquid Dish Soap

Combine these ingredients and put them in a spray bottle. Spray the weeds during a sunny time of day for the best results. Remember, when it comes to killing weeds around your house, natural is better!
