The Most Refreshing Easy Lemon Sun Tea

As you all know – Caleb is the chef in the Lenhof household. I promise, I will share more of his incredible creations here on the blog, but in the meantime, just check out the stories on my Instagram – I occasionally remember to post what he’s making.

My abilities in the kitchen are limited to simple prep work and 3-step recipes. But, I will say, I do know how to make a mean beefy macaroni and cheese and the most refreshing lemon sun tea!

Until a few weeks ago, I truly forgot just how much I love iced tea!

When we take the boys for our daily walk we always head south and loop around through the parks and around the neighborhood. On Wednesdays and Fridays, we always stop at Buddy’s Meat Market and pick up whatever Caleb wants to make for the week. We also have been making a pit stop at the gas station to get some Arizona Lemon Iced Tea. Holy cow – that stuff is refreshing!! But, full of sugar.

As I was sipping my most recent can, I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to make my own at home – but, better?”

Well, in a few seconds you will find out just how I did!

I remember my mom making sun tea every summer when we were growing up. I remember playing in the pool and then coming in asking Mom for some tea and an ICEE Pop… and getting the kitchen floor all wet. Mom would say, “Go back outside, I’ll bring it to you!”

We’ve been buying so much of it and I wanted to see if I could recreate it – minus the crazy amount of sugar.

Wallah! I present to you the easiest, most-refreshing, 0-calorie, lemon sun tea! I make my sun tea in my large wide mouth glass mason jar from Target and Tazo Awake English Breakfast Black Tea.

The Most Refreshing Easy Lemon Sun Tea is super easy to make! Heck, if I can do it, anyone can!

I squeeze 1/2 a lemon in mine, but if you prefer, you could add other fruit or just add lemonade.

Be careful when you’re ripping open the tea bags – I gave myself a wicked paper cut…which hurt even more when I was squeezing the lemon. haha

Once the tea bags are dropped – put the lid on or wrap it with plastic wrap and put it outside in the warm direct sunlight to brew for 5 hours or more.

Sun tea will not be as strong as normal tea that you make with boiling water. If you want it stronger, feel free to add more tea bags and make sure it gets lots and lots of hot sunshine.
