Caleb and I are lucky enough to have a reasonably large yard perfect for long days in the sunshine, napping in the hammock, lounging on our loveseat by the fire, and dining outside.

Favorite Springtime Memory in Our Backyard

One of my favorite memories of dining outside with Caleb in the Spring happened during our first month living in this home when my parents came to visit us. Caleb grilled homemade Pork Banh Mi Burgers, and we sat down to eat; I bit into my burger and said, “Yum! This is the best burger ever!”

Only to realize I had made my burger but forgot to put the pork patty in it! Whoops! But who can blame me; you cannot go wrong with crunchy pickled veggies, fresh cilantro, spicy mayo + jalapeños, and zesty lime between lightly toasted brioche buns! I added the pork patty, and it was still “the best burger ever.”

Caleb is such a great chef, and I am excited about warmer weather and plenty of delicious dinners outside.

Bromeliad Fasciata (Silver Vase Plant)

Are you looking for a fun tropical plant to add to your patio? I recommend Bromeliad Fasciata (Silver Vase Plant) because they will do well outside during the Spring and Summer, and then you can bring them inside during the cooler months. They are a fun patio plant because they look tropical once they start blooming!

They get their nickname because their leaves have a patterned powder that makes them appear silver.

Bromeliads have unique leaves that grow circularly to form a cup€ in the center as they grow. The central cup€ collects the water for the plant, and as the plant matures, it will produce a tall flower stalk with pink bracts. The actual flowers are tiny blue blooms that grow between the pink bracts. Although the blue flowers die quickly, the bright pink bracts often last 5 or 6 months.

 They require very bright light to flower. I use a plant light to supplement the limited sunlight during the winter and fall. Once the pink bracts (flower-looking things) appear, you will want to move the plant to lower light to prolong the colorful bracts.

Fun Fact! Bromeliads remove formaldehyde from the air, making them an excellent air purifier when you bring them inside your home!
